🏞️ Background and Nation of Ilyas (AS)
After the time of Prophet Sulaymān (AS), the Children of Israel became corrupted again. They turned away from the teachings of the prophets and began worshiping idols, particularly a false deity named Ba‘l.
Allah sent Ilyās (AS) to guide them back to the path of tawḥīd and righteousness.
📢 The Call to Tawhid
Ilyās (AS) called out to his people with sincere and passionate reminders:
“Will you call upon Ba‘l and leave the best of creators — Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?”
[Surah As-Sāffāt 37:125–126]
He warned them of the consequences of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and urged them to return to the worship of the One True God.
But his people mocked and rejected him, as often happened with the prophets.
⚖️ Rejection and Allah’s Response
Despite Ilyās’s sincerity and wisdom, his people persisted in their idol worship. As a result, Allah punished them with drought and hardship, as a warning and a chance to repent.
Some reports say that Ilyās prayed for a famine to awaken their hearts. Only a small number of people responded to his message sincerely.
🌟 A Man of Piety and Patience
Though faced with rejection, Ilyās (AS) remained steadfast and devoted. Allah honored his devotion:
“Indeed, Ilyās was among the messengers. When he said to his people, ‘Will you not fear Allah?’… And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations. Peace be upon Ilyās.”
[Surah As-Sāffāt 37:123–130]
His story in the Qur’an is brief but powerful — he stands as a symbol of sincere da’wah, resilience, and true worship.
🤝 According to Some Reports
Some scholars mention that Ilyās (AS) and Al-Yasa‘ (Elisha, AS) were contemporaries or closely linked, continuing the prophetic message among the Children of Israel.
Certain historical or Isra’iliyyat sources even suggest that Ilyās may have had an extended life or was lifted by Allah, but such reports are not confirmed in the Qur’an or authentic hadith.
