Surah No

114

  • Seeking Refuge from Harm: Surah An-Nas is a supplication to seek Allah’s protection from the evil whispers of Satan and all harmful forces that seek to corrupt or mislead people. It highlights the need to turn to Allah for shelter from internal and external sources of harm.

  • Seeking Protection from Spiritual Harm: The Surah focuses on seeking refuge from the evil of the whisperings of Shayatin (devils) that can affect one’s faith, intentions, and actions. It teaches believers to be aware of the spiritual battle that can occur through deceptive thoughts and evil inclinations.

  • Divine Protection for the Soul: The Surah emphasizes that Allah is the Lord of the people, the King of the people, and the God of the people, who alone can offer true protection from harmful influences.

  • Context of Revelation: Surah An-Nas, along with Surah Al-Falaq, was revealed as a form of protection for the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) against evil forces such as black magic and the whispers of Satan. It serves as a reminder for all Muslims to constantly seek Allah’s refuge from evil.

  • Protection for Individuals and Communities: This Surah emphasizes that spiritual harm can affect both individuals and communities, and therefore, it is essential to seek refuge in Allah to preserve the purity of faith and peace of mind.

  • Complementary to Surah Al-Falaq: Surah An-Nas is often recited along with Surah Al-Falaq for comprehensive protection from all kinds of external and internal harm

  • Protection from Evil Whisperings: Reciting this Surah regularly can protect the believer from the evil whispers of Satan, which can lead to doubts, anxiety, or sinful thoughts.

  • Mental and Spiritual Peace: It helps bring spiritual calm and mental peace, knowing that one is relying on Allah’s protection from harmful, unseen forces.

  • Safety from Spiritual and Physical Harm: It provides protection from both spiritual harm (e.g., satanic influence, negative thoughts) and physical harm (e.g., harmful actions or influences from others).

  • On the Importance of Seeking Refuge:

    • The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “Recite the two Surahs, Al-Falaq and An-Nas, in the morning and evening for protection from all evil.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)
This hadith highlights the importance of reciting these two Surahs as a form of protection from evil, envy, and harm.

  • Spiritual Shield:

    • The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) also said: “Whoever recites Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas, Allah will protect them from the harm of the devil and the evil that may afflict them.” (Sahih Bukhari)
This teaching underscores the role of these Surahs as spiritual shields for the believer against harmful influences.
