Prophet Adam (AS)

Prophet Adam (AS) is regarded as the first human and the first prophet in Islam. His story is narrated in the Qur’an with details about his creation, his life in Paradise (Jannah), his descent to Earth, and his role as the first messenger of Allah.

1. Creation of Adam (AS)

Allah created Adam (AS) from clay and molded him into a human form. Allah then breathed His spirit (Ruh) into Adam (AS), making him a living being.

📖 Qur’an (38:71-72)
“When your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay. So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him My spirit, then fall down to him in prostration.’”

Angels and Iblis (Shaytan)

After Adam (AS) was created, Allah commanded the angels and Iblis (Satan) to prostrate to Adam out of respect. The angels obeyed, but Iblis refused due to arrogance, saying:
“I am better than him; You created me from fire and created him from clay.” (Qur’an 7:12)

Due to his disobedience, Allah cursed Iblis and expelled him from Paradise, making him an enemy to mankind.

2. Life in Paradise & The Forbidden Tree

Allah created Hawwa (Eve) from Adam’s rib to be his companion. They were both placed in Jannah (Paradise) and were allowed to eat from anywhere except from one tree.

📖 Qur’an (2:35)
“And We said, ‘O Adam, dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat from it freely wherever you will, but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.'”

However, Iblis deceived them, convincing them that eating from the tree would make them immortal or like angels. Adam (AS) and Hawwa ate from the tree, and as a result, they were removed from Paradise and sent to Earth.

3. Descent to Earth & Repentance

Allah sent Adam (AS) and Hawwa to Earth as a test but also gave them guidance. Adam (AS) repented, and Allah forgave him.

📖 Qur’an (2:37)
“Then Adam received words from his Lord, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of Repentance, the Most Merciful.”

Adam (AS) was sent to Earth not as a punishment, but as part of Allah’s divine plan.

4. Adam (AS) as the First Prophet

Adam (AS) was the first prophet and received divine guidance from Allah. He taught his children about Tawheed (Oneness of Allah), worship, and righteousness.

Adam (AS) and Hawwa had many children, and their descendants spread across the Earth. Among their sons were Habil (Abel) and Qabil (Cain), whose story is significant in Islamic history.

5. Death of Prophet Adam (AS)

Adam (AS) lived for around 1000 years according to some Islamic sources. Before his death, he appointed his son Seth (Shith AS) as his successor to continue guiding humanity.

📖 Qur’an (20:55)
“From the earth We created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you forth once more.”

After his passing, Adam (AS) was buried, and his story became a lesson for all generations.

Lessons from Adam (AS)’s Story

  1. Obedience to Allah – Disobeying Allah’s command leads to hardship.
  2. Repentance – Allah is Merciful and always accepts sincere repentance.
  3. Deception of Shaytan – Satan is always trying to mislead humans, just as he did with Adam (AS).
  4. Life is a Test – Earthly life is temporary, and we should strive to return to Jannah.

Conclusion

Prophet Adam (AS) was the first human and the first prophet, created by Allah with a noble purpose. His story teaches us about faith, repentance, and human nature.
